How Can Counselling Help
Where do I begin?
You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to counselling. You might know exactly what’s troubling you, or perhaps you’re not quite sure why you’re feeling the way you do.
There isn’t one particular reason to seek counselling. You might be going through something difficult, feeling stuck, or simply wanting to understand yourself a little better.
But I’m fine, aren’t I?
Perhaps you’ve spent years pushing through, keeping busy and telling yourself everything is fine. But have you ever stopped to ask yourself whether it actually is?
When did you learn to put yourself last?
Sometimes we learn early on that other people’s needs matter more than our own. Over time, those ways of coping can become so familiar that we stop noticing them.
Perhaps you’ve become used to keeping everyone else happy, pushing your own feelings aside or finding it difficult to say no.
What if you don’t really know how you’re feeling?
Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious or disconnected, but can’t quite put your finger on why.
There’s so much going on in your head that it can be difficult to hear yourself. Or perhaps you’ve become so used to feeling a certain way that you don’t really notice it anymore.
What happens when life doesn’t go the way we imagined?
Life doesn’t always turn out the way we expected. The loss of someone close to us, changes in our health or the end of a relationship can leave us feeling lost, uncertain or struggling to make sense of what’s happened.
Sometimes it’s not just about what’s happened, but also about the life we thought we’d have.
Why do I keep finding myself in the same situations?
Perhaps you keep having the same arguments, find yourself feeling unheard or struggle to say how you really feel.
Sometimes relationships can leave us questioning ourselves, wondering why things keep happening in the same way, even when we’re trying to do something different.
